Now Feds are embedding themselves in local Police Departments
After 10 people were shot — seven of them in one incident — overnight in Baltimore following the city’s most violent month in decades, police announced Sunday that 10 federal agents will embed with the city’s homicide unit for the next two months.
The Feds will not solve all that many homicides in just two months. Homicide detectives have been closing cases in this country on their own forever. If Baltimore wanted to make more Homicide detectives to pad out their manpower they could have. So why bring in the Feds, if they won’t solve crimes?
Feds specialize in intelligence operations. The FBI is one big intelligence agency. Agents recruit sources from within the civilian populace (much more complicated than walking up to someone, flashing credentials, and pitching them on the idea – you surviel them and learn everything about them first). They compile databases, acquire intelligence irrespective of whether or not it would pass muster in a court of law, deploy technical surveillance, and use vehicular and foot surveillance. They create networks with local small businesses – with carpenters, appliance repairmen, plumbers, cable TV installers, phone repairmen, maid services, landscapers, and others who can gain entry to houses without warrants. They recruit agents or install operatives at banks, medical centers, phone companies, internet providers, and other repositories of information they want. All of these people get a small stipend to make their lives more comfortable, and the feds get a network that can allow them to parse anyone’s life quite quickly should they appear suddenly on the radar.
I suspect these Feds will be imparting their bad habits to the local PD, who will, after the fed’s departure, begin recruiting their own intelligence network. Meanwhile, the Feds will have created a bridge linking the new PD surveillance machine up to the federal machinery, and they will have assessed who within the department they can trust or control. Intelligence is the new black in Federal Law Enforcement, and in this digital age, what they are building will blow all of our minds when it comes out.
A total of 191 people have been killed in Baltimore in 2015. Forty-five people were killed in July alone, matching the all-time monthly high from 1972, when the city had 275,000 more residents. Forty-two people were killed in May, the month after the death of Freddie Gray in police custody sparked riots.
The violence this year is in some ways unprecedented: No previous year has had two months with more than 40 killings, and the 116 killed from May to July is a three-month high in data kept since 1970.
Davis said officers have confiscated about 20 percent more guns on the street this year than at this point last year. Police believe people are arming themselves amid an “atmosphere of uncertainty” after April’s unrest.
This is how K-selection appears as it approaches. First it is an uptick in violence, griping about the economy and the state of the nation, lies from the government that everything is fine, and leaders talking tougher because that is what the populace wants. All of that is faint prelude. The real fun begins when the tipping point happens.
I do believe this is showing that all ideas about civil war may be overblown. When the SHTF, the inner cities will be so chaotic, and what will happen there so horrific, that the average K-strategist will probably want to volunteer to help the feds and locals bring order back to those areas (though I suspect the want will run into the need to hunker down and protect our own).
The department’s homicide clearance rate is 36 percent.
It is amazing. Now, with all our resources and a pacified, brain-deadened population that rarely kills, complete idiots are murdering people in Baltimore, and they have almost a 2 out of 3 chance of getting away with it.
Imagine when the bodies are so deep you can hide more bodies under them, the government is too busy trying to quell violence to investigate it, the resources to pay investigators are no longer viable because nobody trusts the currency, food availability is so spotty as to be unreliable anyway, and the people who are killing are highly intelligent, highly moral, conscientious killers with a few decades of CSI and Forensic Files under their belts.
Talk about the Wild West. Watch your ass when that period begins.
Ironically, I’d expect a return of politeness and good manners.
Apocalypse cometh™, but on the bright side, it will feature better social graces than we have now.
The feds won’t teach them anything. They are idiots — you don’t make them dangerous idiots. The feds will simply collect intel on the detectives so they can be blackmailed later.
If they feds do any actual investigating at all (it is more likely that, being rabbits, they will treat this as a taxpayer funded vacation) it will be to uncover how many of those “unsolved” murders were committed by cops or people paying off the cops.
The Fed’s prime interest is making sure if the the rioting does not turn into a white v. black civil war. All it would take is for one redneck with an AR-15 to show up to the party or for the thugs to start killing pretty white children for the lid to come off.
