Early Stage K-selection in Greece

K-selection doesn’t necessarily mean wolves must hunt and kill rabbits. Rather, in the early stages rabbits are parasitized by the leeches, while wolves are not.

One evening three weeks ago in Kifissia, an affluent garden suburb of Athens, a retired financial adviser and his wife decided to take in one of the delights of summer here, an outdoor movie.

One of the things which will require adjustment for many is acquiring a sinecure mindset, where comforts and pleasures are not only not necessary, but things to be wary of. I am reminded of Selco describing how early on in his collapse, he and his friends ventured out to buy powdered eggs because they wanted food that tasted good. They got ripped off, and almost got killed by the guys selling it. His first lesson was that survival comes first, and enjoyment isn’t even third or fourth. Waste your time on some pleasure, and you may end up dead.

This Greek guy is about to lose his entire life savings, which would have kept him and his family alive during the collapse, all for an outdoor movie which he could have streamed from Netflix with a window open. Now he is broke, and will only survive when the real collapse happens through the generosity of others, if they choose to extend it.

Don’t fuck around with K-selection – this shit will be real, and winning or losing will mean life or death for some. As a society, most of us have never actually seen this set of circumstances (which is actually the default set of circumstances in nature, which has existed for most of our history, and molded everything we see today).

They pulled tight the shutters, set the alarm, locked the house and strolled off.

Halfway through the movie the alarm company called, and they rushed home to find the alarm immersed in a bucket of water, the shutters jimmied and a safe emptied of jewelry…

At seemingly every dinner gathering in Athens this summer, the conversation turns to tales of break-ins, burglaries and robberies that have accompanied the government debt crisis…

While the rich may have moved their money to Switzerland, Luxembourg or safe deposit boxes, the middle class has stashed not just cash but gold and jewelry, among other valuables, under the proverbial mattress.

Greek crime statistics released last week hinted at a dark side to the secreting of all those valuables. Across Greece, the most serious crime is down or stable over all, but reports of burglaries and robberies were on the rise for the first six months of the year, suggesting that the hidden valuables had become enticing targets for thieves…

The thieves are most likely part of organized rings, not poor people, said Mary Mantouvalou, a lawyer in the legal aid department of the Athens Bar Association. “We’re talking about much more serious crime. Sometimes they are violent. They are willing to go as far as necessary.”

One benefit of understanding surveillance – you will never assume that your plans are unknown (ears can be everywhere – even in your house), and you will never do something predictable. Somebody likely knew he was going out, and would be more than ten minutes from his house – the timing was almost certainly not by chance. Chances are he was targeted, as a fairly rich financial planner who was still of a level to be targetable, and not so rich as to have knowledgeable, surveillance aware security.

Did a neighbor observe his weekly movie night, and arrange for a relative to clean him out? Did his wife mention it to a friend in a coffee shop and then get followed home by a spotter who overheard? Did a team of ten spotters at the weekly movie watch faces for ones who were regulars, and then follow the ones with the nicest watches back to their homes, looking for the ones who lived more than ten minutes away? Where did he get the valuables? Could the jeweler or precious metal dealer have had someone tail him to his house after a large purchase? Who installed the safe? Where did he buy it? Did a repair man have access to the house and see the safe? When you understand surveillance, you understand the raw power of intelligence, and how difficult it is to be absolutely thorough in containing it. You also understand how far ahead of everyone else you are.

Chances are, like his life savings the answers are long gone, but the lessons remain.

When K-selection begins, gangs looking to take your valuables, with complex systems designed to spot and pick up targets, do surveillance on targets, and time and execute attacks will become common. Know what they will look like in the earliest stages of attack planning, how they may try to pick you up, and how they operate, if you plan on having any level of comfort or certainty amidst the storm.

Don’t flash wealth, don’t have plans, if you do have plans keep them unspoken, and always be on alert for triggers, commits, pick-ups, hand offs, box positions, leap-frogging foot surveillance repeatedly exiting vehicles ahead of you as you move on foot, pedestrians using reflections to follow you, hustles to get in positions, unusual technology installed out of place near your residence, and recognized faces or vehicles that violate TEDD (repeatedly seen over unlikely ranges of Time, Environment, Distance, or violations of Demeanor). If you are really tight, you’ll monitor frequencies for radio traffic, encrypted or not, around you as you move. Most such surveillance will be amateurish, and easily made. Even the pros aren’t all that invisible.

On the bright side, once K-selection begins, the leeches will take care of the rabbits, offering a cleansing effect on society. Once the rabbits are gone, the leeches will turn their attentions to us, and that is when the polishing of society will begin. If the K-selection is severe enough, what will come out of the other side of the tunnel will be a free society where people have respect for each other, and loyalty to their own. In short, it will be the opposite of a the SJW shithole we presently see all around us.

For those who survive, living in such a time will be among the highest of God’s privileges.

All most excellent advice.
Would you care to elaborate on these topics on your blog a bit further? I’m very interested to learn more.
