Is Zika Spreading Due To Mosquitos, Or Gays?

Interestingly, despite extensive testing, there have been no reports of mosquitos testing positive for Zika in Miami, even as Miami and California experience outbreaks. This raises the question, how is it spreading?

We know it is sexually transmissible, and transmissible in saliva, theoretically. We know Miami is an LGBT hotspot, and the area with the outbreak is known for its arts community.

In California, scientists had said mosquito transmission would likely not occur, even in the peak season, due to climatic factors. Now California is in the midst of an outbreak regardless, raising the question of whether mosquitos are the vector producing it. The fact California is another LGBT hotspot does raise questions.

What will be interesting is if we see an increase in cases which cannot be explained by Mosquito transmission, or sexual contact.

That might indicate that either Zika has developed the ability to spread more like a cold or flu, or maybe more likely, certain populations have been engaging in infective behaviors, such as contaminating food they prepare to be served in restaurants or delivered to homes with saliva or urine. Only now, with the right pathogen with sufficient public interest, is that behavior manifesting in a recognizable disease outbreak.

I will say, I knew an EMT who acquired Hepatitis C, despite being in a monogamous relationship with a non-carrier, and never having endured an exposure. He knew what year he acquired it because he gave blood each year. The only way he thought he might have been exposed was through fast food, which he ate a lot of. He assumed somebody with Hep C had spit in something he ate.

Never underestimate what a narcissistic personality, infected with disease, jealous of the healthy, and able to transmit their pathogens to others covertly, will do.

If this is the case, watch for gay hotspots all over the country to begin having inexplicable Zika out-breaks, regardless of Mosquito activity. I would also watch for news programs to quickly lose interest in the story, lest people begin to wonder too much about the underlying mechanism, and who it might be associated with.
