K-Strategists Are Grateful

r-strategists are not:

Whoever said “beggars can’t be choosers” never met Somali Muslim refugees in Minnesota.

These Muslim imports in Minneapolis are now demanding a tax-funded “halal” non-pork food shelf at a free food pantry for the poor.

As if it’s not bad enough that nearly all the “American” Muslims who have joined ISIS have been Somalis from Minneapolis, their relatives here are demanding that Americans adhere to the same Sharia Laws the Islamic State fighters are trying to impose throughout the Middle East:

“A group of first-generation Somali Americans says they need help in developing a food shelf that specializes in healthy foods that do not contain pork or pork byproducts. “It’s about human rights also, basic human rights to get the proper food and also healthy food,” said Imam Hassan Mohamud…”

This is hardly the first demands Somalis have made on the good people of Minneapolis. When the influx of Somali thugs natually resulted in a massive increase in crime a decade ago, Somalis demanded a $48 million Sharia-compliant “youth center” to keep Somali gangs “out of trouble”.

We have read for several years now how Muslim cab drivers in Minneapolis and several airports have kicked out blind passengers with guide dogs (dogs are “unclean” in Islam), or customers transporting alcohol. They came here, taking advantage of American generosity, and returned it by enforcing their own brand of Sharia Law upon us.

Liberals in Minnesota have bent over backwards for them, setting up foot-washing basins in their airport and even at a university, in response to their demands.

This is a food pantry which gives away donated food, and they complain the donated food isn’t exactly what they wanted, or “healthful” enough.

K-strategists are adapted to a harsh environment. They are designed to function when things are at their absolute worst. Go out of your way to give them any respite from the harshness, and their amygdala will fully relax, and they will be immensely grateful.

r-strategists are adapted to absolute perfection and ease. Let any aspect of their environment be subpar and they will focus on it, their amygdala will fire off, and they will complain, and expect that imperfection to be rectified immediately. Nowhere can you see that more than here. A few years ago these people were lucky to be eating God-knows-what in lawless Somalia, where gunman could kill them any day. We let them in, and next thing you know they expect 48 million dollar community centers, and perfect food.

Think about how back in Somalia will be people tolerant of those harsher conditions, who have not tried to leave. Think of how they would respond to someone trying to make their lives easier. Conditioned to tolerate harshness, any relief of it would immediately relax their amygdala, and make them more pleasant. Think of how in such a pleasant state they would be unlikely to complain.

r/K has many applications, but one of the more important ones is in structuring immigration policies for nations. There is a clear difference between those who seek ease, and those who tolerate harshness. Which among them enters your nation will depend upon what is offered to potential immigrants, and how immigrating to your nation is portrayed overseas.

I’m just finishing up Narcissist. Great stuff, both books. The implications for understanding everyday behavior are enormous, and not just at the extremes.

Could you recommend a source about the original biological theory and one about the amygdala?

I’m currently reading the book on Narcissism. Hope that it helped you out! I’m h oping most of all to gain the ability to detect narcissists under their cloaks of invisibility through which they pass unnoticed in normal society.

Narcissist is good so far, I’m mostly hoping to learn how to identify narcissists.

It’s in there. Just finished. I’m thinking the narcissist is some kind of super rabbit.
“That’s no ordinary rabbit! He’s a killer!”
Not that they don’t all vote that way.

I suspect the real problem is that these “refugees” interpret generosity as weakness. So they instinctively push their luck as far as they can go.
In Christian cultures, the strong have a duty to take care of the weak. But in many non-Christian cultures, it’s the opposite – the strong get to take what they like, while the weak are left to die. So if you are kind to them, they think that means they are stronger than you.

As regarding r and K – well, I think what marks K is not so much competition, as co-operation. Wolves hunt in packs, and share the kill. In-group altruism, so to speak.
Whereas rabbits are all completely selfish. They have no in-group.

Given the relative harshness of conditions in Somalia, how do you account for them being so rabbitized? Did we just get the loser rabbits or are they just trying to take advantage of a perceived weakness here?

Rabbits can survive harsh conditions by breeding like crazy, and grabbing every bit of grass they can find. Most them will die – but the survivors will breed more. In fact, if most of the rabbits didn’t die, there would be ecological collapse.

The only way starvation can foster r-selection is if it is pulsatile, massively and suddenly depopulating in an unselective way, and quickly abates with a new glut

Such as… in a part of the world that has periodic famine, leading to the UN bringing in tons of free food, which then puts the local food-producers out of business, which leads to another famine, which leads to…

I think it also needs to be pointed out that selection pressure cannot create anything, only change the proportion of what’s already there. It’s limited by what it has to work with.

Or is it that their innate r tendencies finally have a chance to flourish?
