Next month’s Puerto Rican Day Parade is embroiled in controversy over organizers’ choice for “National Freedom Hero”: a long-imprisoned leader of a separatist group that sought the island’s independence by carrying out bombings against civilians in New York City and elsewhere.
Oscar López Rivera, who was freed last week after 35 years, and his group will not only march in the June 11 parade, but he will be feted as its premier guest.
The designation is fueling boycott threats by city police groups and others who question the propriety of honoring a man associated with FALN, a Spanish abbreviation for Armed Forces of National Liberation, a Marxist-Leninist group that carried out bombings that killed civilians in the 1970s and ’80s.
The worst was at Fraunces Tavern in lower Manhattan in 1975, in which four people were killed and many more injured. No one was charged in that attack.
“You shouldn’t be honoring terrorists, and he’s a terrorist,” said Al O’Leary, spokesman for the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, the NYPD’s biggest police union. “It doesn’t make sense to honor someone who is a key player in an organization who essentially says, ‘Let’s kill innocent people to make a political point.’ ”…
He got more prison time following a botched escape attempt, but his sentence was commuted in January by then-President Barack Obama.
There is no need to try and escape if you can just ask a leftist political leader to let you out. Leftists love violent psychopaths who kill innocent people, because they reduce population numbers and create a real form of r-selection, just as hawks create r-selection for rabbits.
Anybody who supports this asshole is not an American. They are the definition of Fake American. They pretend to be an American, while supporting America’s enemies, who tried to kill American citizens.

Amazing- the US has given the Puertos so much and now they’re trying to become a state. If they vote for independence millions will flee to the US. If they become a state- they’ll vote straight Dem until kingdom come. Even now, having spent themselves into oblivion tens of thousands are fleeing to the US, all while their leaders blame the USA for their woes- and for not bailing them out, again.

Mayor Daley accused President Clinton on Thursday of endangering Chicagoans by offering clemency to 11 members of a Puerto Rican independence movement linked to a spree of guerrilla bombings here. Daley, who rarely criticizes Clinton, said FALN members don’t deserve leniency after bombing 28 Chicago buildings between 1975 and 1979.
“We’ve seen the bombing [at the federal building] in Oklahoma City. Think of that,” Daley said. “People were killed there. Do you wait till they’re killed, then say it’s more serious than just planting bombs around?”
Lopez Rivera was offered clemency but still would have to serve more time before his release. None of the FALN members offered clemency have made a decision on Clinton’s offer, said their attorney
When you lose Daley over vote fraud and the Pardoned cannot decide to accept, says a lot.
