Ace has been tweeting about the attractiveness of a undergoing a national divorce from liberals, and nobody has been disputing his logic. The tweets are funny, because they epitomize the emotional state of someone who has finally realized that the narcissist they married cannot be reasoned with, and is never going to change. Once you realize that, you realize that the only way to have any vestige of a normal life will be to escape at any cost.
This is a natural outgrowth of our increasingly partisan political world. The increasing partisanship has many causes, but I suspect it is in large part growing due to the onset of K-selection. Arguments, fighting, acrimony, all come from the wellspring of angst that originates in the amygdala. Get that amygdala firing with subtle discomfort, and it will be primed to explode on seeing the most minor irritation. Whatever is going on beneath the surface of this nation, everyone’s mood is deteriorating. This is the very beginning of the amygdala stimulation produced by perceiving the resource restriction of K-selection.
One factor creating the partisanship is the media’s narratives, but I suspect beneath that is a very similar baseline angst to what is producing everything from the rise of the nationalist right in Europe, to the riots over the police in America, to the anti-Semitic attacks in France, to the willingness of militias to amass around the Bundy ranch, to the restlessness of the Islamic radicals in Africa and the Mideast. Something is in the air. Nobody can even put a solid finger on what it is, but they suddenly want to attack every other minor irritation in their lives.
Divorce can’t possibly happen now. The elites have the governmental resources to stop it, and those who would have a divorce are too comfortable to risk everything in a fight right now. But both of those variables appear on course to reverse, at exactly the same time.
If that happens, a powerless government will face a massive pack of wolves with nothing to lose, and anything will be possible.
The news & entertainment media’s role in polarizing us deserves a large part of the blame. It makes leftism seem far more popular & widespread than it is, and portrays conservatives as evil ogres bent on taking away everyone’s food, shelter, & fun.
We conservatives react with disgust and move toward our compatriots in response. Leftist rabbits react by embracing leftism even more tightly, since the dimwits accept the media’s portrayals and think “that’s where everyone is going anyway.”
No wonder the social fabric is coming apart under the stress. Wash, rinse, repeat … until the fraying social fabric eventually tears.
When it does tear, no peaceful divorce will be possible. There would have to be a major migration of opposing groups to prevent a chaotic bloodletting. Compare the maps of the 1860s & today, then ponder how much more atomized the opposing sides are now. Where do you draw borders between divorcing parties?
