Where Modern r-Amygdalae Meet Ancient K-Amygdalae

The Romans were highly K, and their art reflected that. As the artist toiled, a finely honed amygdala experimented, grew irritated, rejected, experimented again, and only settled on a course of artistic action when that action did not stimulate amygdala irritation. The result was art that reflected perfection of form. As artists grew and developed under such a cognitive-training model, they developed skills.

Today, the amygdalae of modern man is so poorly developed that it cannot even copy what the amygdalae of days gone by produced.

Mosaic Restoration

Some Turks tried to “restore” tile mosaics produced by the Romans. This should be about as hard as painting by the numbers. Find a tile of the same color, cut it into the same shape, and replace the old tile. The results are above, and from a cognitive perspective, they represent an amygdala that is not strongly driven to feel aversive stimulus, or adjust its behavior in response to that aversive stimulus it does feel.

It is kind of a metaphor for what is happening to our governing structures. Today our predominantly-rabbit-citizenry just doesn’t have the drive to accurately reproduce what was left to us by the , and as a result the product of our efforts barely reminds us of what once was.

The thing is, not only do we face the economic collapse. When this level of idiocy and incompetence combines with the economic collapse, the climate shift produced by changing sun cycles, and the pool of starving savages currently being coddled by our liberal establishment, the chaos produced will be unimaginable.

On the bright side, when it is all over, what was old will be new again. Not only will we be able to recreate what once was, we will create from scratch that which the rabbits of the even more distant future will be unable to even copy. The good times will come again.

I suspect that in K-selected societies in the ancient world. That great functionality is tied intimately with great beauty wedded together as one.

And the unlike the modern world beauty and functionality is not disconnected or separate. Hence the beautiful and long lasting functional architecture of the Romans which is still with us today.

Weapons and devices that are just as beautiful as they are functional.
