In both photos, the nose, upper lip, and eyebrows appear to be exhibiting an affect which is almost a mixture of irritation and disgust. It is as if they are saying, “Oh my God! What is that smell?!!” while trying to look unaffected. That, to me, is something going on in the amygdala which is probably related to the amygdala-driven sexual tastes of the individual.
So you if you are looking simply for the nasolabial line, you may be missing the point. It is much more an affect, than a single visual fold in the skin. It is much more a general disgusted-smell feeling you get off the face than a simple, easily observed visual trait.

Plastic surgery may also explain the missing nasolabial fold. Once word gets out about these little-noticed “tells” expect people to hide it any way they can, they are probably doing it already.

What is the explanation for gays having nasolabial folds, when it is in fact conservatives who have greater amygdala activation during disgust? Why are overexpression of disgust and liberal/gay correlated?
It is an interesting question, because you have people who have no disgust, and yet on their face is an ultra disgust affect, indicating the disgust light is going off all the time in their brain. One of the gay readers here even said a gay friend told him that gay face was basically an expression that one would make when smelling shit. That is disgust affect.
I think the disgust nasolabial lines described here are set in some sort of early overload of the amygdala, such as disgust produced my molestation. That may turn the disgust on constantly, which makes them not notice the difference between disgusting and not disgusting. I think it is like narcissists. Their amygdalae freak out so much they have to learn to ignore the amygdala entirely with a brain hack, like telling themselves, and actually believing, that they are the greatest people on earth. As a result, they are the most panickable people on earth, with the most active amygdalae, and yet their behavior would indicate they have no amygdala, and no ability to tease out the future consequences of their stupid behaviors.
In endocrinology, a lot of hormone level effects are only seen when the releases are moderate and pulsatile. So a natural pulse of testosterone that breaks up a period without it is more effective than a year of artificially high testosterone that is constant. That is what is behind the steroid cycles body builders have to use to keep their muscle mass. Amygdala may be the same. It needs to be able to turn it on and off. Flip the switch on and break it off, and from a cognitive perspective it eventually becomes the warning light someone tapes a piece of black electrical tape over.
