There isn’t just one doomsday plane. The USAF has 2 Air Force 1’s, 4 x E-4B both are based on the 747. The USAF also has 6 C-32A, based on the 757. Several can be airborne in minutes with VIP’s on board. The US Navy has 16 E-6B, and several are always airborne.

Russia also has doomsday planes. 4 x Il-80, 2 x Tu-214PU and 10 x Il-96 (the Russian Air force one). 1 or 2 are always airborne.

China doesn’t really have doomsday planes, just a lot of really deep bunkers for VIPs.

A hobby for the SKYKING folks is tracking how many planes are airborne at any one time.
