Republican presidential hopeful Jeb Bush said Tuesday that the government should have broad surveillance powers of Americans and private technology firms should cooperate better with intelligence agencies to help combat “evildoers.”
At a national security forum in the early voting state of South Carolina, Bush put himself at odds with Republican congressional leaders who earlier this year voted to end the National Security Agency’s bulk collection of phone records.
The former Florida governor said Congress should revisit its changes to the Patriot Act, and he dismissed concerns from civil libertarians who say the program violated citizens’ constitutionally protected privacy rights.
“There’s a place to find common ground between personal civil liberties and NSA doing its job,” Bush said. “I think the balance has actually gone the wrong way.”
I’ve got an idea – don’t import foreign enemies who want to kill us and tolerate their presence amongst us. How about we try that, rather than increase the size and scope of the already massively overbearing surveillance state.
Then, lets air out to the people what the surveillance state actually looks like – budgetarily, manpower-wise, technologically, and how many people with no history of anything criminal have gotten the full proctological examination. Declassify all that and give federal domestic surveillance operators whistleblower protection (they are at present exempt from the protection).

Seriously, I have yet to meet anyone – anyone! – who has said they would even consider Jeb. I’ve had three people, out of the blue, rave about Ted Cruz. I see people all over who get jazzed about Donald. I know a guy who likes Lindsey Graham – no shit! I’ve yet to meet a single fucking person who would even consider Jeb, or even thinks well of him as a candidate.
There is no other explanation for his position in the polls, in my opinion, other than the polls are utter bullshit.

The problem as I see it, is that the national security hawks fail to grasp the fact, that while their preferred candidates might not misuse the power they want to go after our actual enemies, the government itself cannot be trusted with that power. It cannot be trusted because sooner or later someone else will take charge and turn that entire apparatus against a different set of supposed enemies.
Two things: First, NSA is like ant traps, you need a lot of them to only lessen the impact. They never really solve the problem. The only way to fix the problem is to find the nest and kill the queen. Jihad won’t stop until that “religion” is eradicated from our country and the rest of the world. We don’t need to give more power to NSA, we need to reign it in. Second: We need to give balls back to our people and stop messing with our right to keep and bare arms anonymously. The problem of jihad will be taken care of one shot at a time. Ban islam from our country, bulldoze the mosques, and throw out any who try to proselytize that filthy political system. If they persist, invade their country kill all the mullahs and occupy it.
It is crazy how brilliantly this summarizes everything, and depressing how such wisdom is banned from the public debate by the media.
Yet it is what I suspect Trump would lean toward, so there is that.
