Government is increasingly corrupt, and its minions try to keep it that way by punishing anyone honest who would run for office.
I was not surprised at what a scumbag Hastert appears to have been (If you can believe the stories). He was molesting boys as a wrestling coach, structuring payoff money to cover it up, and even this piece on his real estate deals betrays a shocking corruption. What I was surprised by was that he was hung out to dry on it all. I can only assume he failed to grease the right palm to keep his peccadillos private. I’d be shocked if he experiences any more than a minor inconvenience, though.
Contrast that with this case, where a doctor wanted to run for Senate. She circulated a nominating petition at her office, even consulting with a lawyer to make sure it was all done right. She then left to do a medical mercy mission doing relief for typhoon victims in the Philippines. Because she wasn’t there when some of the signatures were signed, she has now been convicted of twelve felony counts, and will likely lose her medical license. Again, I am not surprised.
Contrast that with Obama, who I believe was a gay crackhead in Chicago, who basically watched as incumbents of offices he ran for either stepped aside or came under withering judicial and media attacks. The culmination of his path was the Presidential election of a Senator who never did anything except serve part of a Senate term. He even beat a Vietnam Vet with decades in Washington, who everyone knew was better qualified. What tells you that something is wrong is that it is not surprising at all.
Elsewhere, DAs and LE view the courts as enemies who threaten their power. Meanwhile, the rules designed to protect freedom are just accepted as something to be ignored and broken by agents who have crossed the line so far they think nothing of turning on their own agencies.
I hate to say it, but I don’t think this republic can be saved. Our job now is simply to document the fall, so when the harshness returns, perhaps we can motivate the K’s who emerge from the smoke to treat all rabbits as the cancerous plague they are. Only through the constant maintenance of a steady state of hostility and feelbad, designed specifically to drive away rabbits and turn the populace on them, can an honest and decent republic possibly be maintained.
It is probably too late to create that now, and maintain the comfort we have at the same time. Only once we have returned to K, can we possibly harness the horror people will feel at what the rabbits created, to create the type of permanently selective environment favoring K and driving away r, that will last the test of time.
