Flashback : Obama Plays “Lets You and Him Fight” with Russia and the Saudis

From March 2014, Obama appeals to Saudi Arabia to punish Russia:

U.S. President Barack Obama tried to convince the King of Saudi Arabia to coordinate actions in the oil market to reduce world oil prices, the main source of Russia’s export revenues, and “punish its behavior” in Crimea. Experts estimate that if the prices are reduced by as little as 12 dollars per barrel, the Russian Federation will lose $40 billion in revenue

Being Obama’s idea, the strategy failed miserably, and now Russia and Saudi Arabia are working together to figure out how to deal with Syria, while Obama sits in a corner sulking with Reggie Love’s thumb up his ass.

Meanwhile Russian officials are signalling that they will begin to look to influence events in Afghanistan, due to the leadership vacuum there:

The member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) should pool their efforts in order to prevent the use of Afghanistan as a tool for aggravating the situation in Central Asia, Sergei Istrakov, deputy chief of the Russian General Staff, said at an international conference on Afghanistan on Thursday.

“The emerging military-political situation in Central Asia and its estimated future indicate that the SCO member states’ joint efforts to negate the regional security threats emanating from Afghanistan are badly needed. Therefore, the capabilities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization are utterly timely and relevant,” Istrakov said…

Istrakov cited as an example the settlement of the Syrian crisis that proved that the efforts taken by the western counterterrorist coalition to fight the Islamic State have been in vain, “because the coalition members have different objectives and take uncoordinated efforts, and their activities boil down to simulating a proactive fight.”

Russia is responding to Talibani forces amassing on the borders, and creating instability.

The buildup of terrorist groups, including Taliban units, in immediate proximity to the Tajik border raised serious concern in the republic, an officer from the Tajik National Security Committee told Tass on Thursday.

“Over the recent time, we have been witnessing movement of armed groups, mostly from Taliban, in the Badakhshan direction of the Tajik-Afghan border,” the source said, adding that their numbers exceeded 1,000 gunmen.

“According to operational data of our Afghan colleagues, Taliban groups control a sizable part of Afghan settlements on the border with Tajikistan and they keep moving closer to the border, which cannot but alarm Dushanbe,” the source added.

One detriment to being a rabbit is the big wolves won’t take you seriously, and the people you’d want to fight the wolves will tend to side with strength before weakness, especially when ISIS is knocking on their door.
