News Briefs – 04/30/2019

I always see lots of r/K related stories I think might interest the readers here, but I only have time to blog about a few, so here are some additional news stories that might be of interest. You can skim the titles and summaries, and click the links if they are of interest. Keep in mind, many of these reports are products of the Fake News, so although they will be what people are hearing and talking about, there is no guarantee any one of them is necessarily correct, and we have had cases of outright lies make it onto these pages, especially about President Trump.

The power of a violation of expectation on the amygdala.“The man who fired a semi-automatic weapon inside the Chabad of Poway synagogue in San Diego on Saturday froze, dropped his gun and sprinted to his car when he saw Oscar Stewart come barreling toward him, yelling so loud the priest at a neighboring church could hear.” As a general rule, I get the impression shooters have weak amygdalae, which cannot cope with the stress they are under or come to a productive means of dealing with it. No shooter has ever fixed the problem they faced, or really dealt with the real people or organization who were responsible for their angst. Rather, their amygdala has just been unable to cope, and driven an almost random action in response before they really analyzed the problem, and came up with a way to take it out completely from the root. As a result, they first tell themselves they will not encounter any real resistance (out of necessity, because their amygdala needs to hear it), and then when they encounter resistance the mix of threat and violation of expectation triggers them to quickly breakdown and either self-terminate, or execute a French advance as this character did. Notice the resister executed full amygdala engagement, both physical and auditory, and the attacker’s amygdala literally locked up and shut down, to the point it could not execute the logical response, which was a counterattack of the primary threat. The amygdala is like a computer, and you can control it by controlling what you present to it.

Gillette does an SJW ad that Forbes noted pissed off a large part of its demographic, now profits are down so far people are asking if Proctor and Gamble should get out of the shaving business. SJWism is not popular, and it would not exist were it not for the external support of the hidden hand of Cabal on our culture. That it exists tells you that our economic system and our culture are violating the simple rules of common sense.

Ted Nugent says the NRA may have a small accounting problem, and they should open their books to the membership just to clear the air.

Consumer spending roars back, inflation not so much. I have seen a couple of cases now of the Cabal seemingly targeting, in some cases quite openly and harshly, mathematicians, one of whom had begun to look at economics specifically. I get the impression that they may have a very clear objective of preventing any new, unorthodox examination of our system, for fear someone may notice some aspect of it violates common sense. It is possible what we know in the field, and what we have seen in the past, are all misrepresentations of a system that would work quite differently, were there not somebody at the top draining value out of the system in some regard. It will be interesting to see if our economic system now begins to defy prior historical precedents.

Regarding the story about the economy and inflation, it should be noted that most normal people really don’t know that there are different schools of economics or that they can have wildly different views on how things work. Those on the right will, for example, recall the constant refrain from the media during the Obama years that economic events were “unexpected.” I’m inclined to think that this was true. For those in the media, who have not bothered to read von Mises or Hayek events would seem mysterious and unexplained. The mental model that the left has of economics does not have any relation to how the world actually works so of course they are surprised by the failure of Obama and the success of Donald Trump.

There’s a reason Boeing doesn’t want their employees talking, and why the news only gets worse as time goes on, and will likely only get worse.

It’s because nobody is surprised at what happened. Saddened, yes, but not surprised.

“The 737 Diversity Council enables the 737 Program to leverage diversity to create an environment where all employees feel empowered to contribute in a meaningful way. This is carried out through initiatives and programs as selected by the Diversity Council under the leadership of our Servant Leader Board. ”

The reason Boeing has been very careful about how it frames the flaws with the 737 MAX is because of who is involved, both with the operators involved and with their own engineers.

But there’s more than one layer of dysfunction at play.

Some old-fashioned chicanery:

https://www.thegazette.com/subject/news/business/angle-of-attack-sensors-on-airliners-get-fresh-scrutiny-united-technologies-rosemount-aerospace-20190318

“Airbus A320 planes with certain sensors made by two companies — United Technologies, parent company of Rosemount Aerospace, which makes Boeing sensors; and Sextant/Thomson — “appear to have a greater susceptibility to adverse environmental conditions” than sensors made by a third company, the FAA said.”

“Donation” to the Clinton Foundation – United Technologies Corporation $25,001 – $50,000
Lobbying fees paid to Podesta Group: $690,000

But what’s the reason it’s been taken “months” for one of the top aerospace companies to fix an obvious software flaw? Does it really take “months” to alter the software to stop relying on a single sensor’s input? Does it really take “months” to make the system easier to override?

https://patents.google.com/patent/US7142971B2/en

“The present invention relates to the automatic control of the path of travel of a vehicle and, in particular, to techniques for automatically controlling the path of travel of a vehicle that cannot generally be superseded or disengaged from onboard once the automatic control system is engaged.”

“…there is a need in the industry for a technique that conclusively prevents unauthorized persons from gaining access to the controls of a vehicle and therefore threatening the safety of the passengers onboard the vehicle, and/or other people in the path of travel of the vehicle, thereby decreasing the amount of destruction individuals onboard the vehicle would be capable of causing. In particular, there is a need for a technique that ensures the continuation of the desired path of travel of a vehicle by removing any type of human decision process that may be influenced by the circumstances of the situation, including threats or further violence onboard the vehicle.”

Or does it simply take “months” to develop and implement the necessary cover stories to avoid people realizing that there is something considerably more ominous is at play?

Econometrics was the area of study for my econ degree and I have kept up on it (mostly). I know why the vast monetary infusion didn’t cause as much inflation as expected (many attribute it to gov manipulation of inflation stats – and that is true to an extent): huge amounts of cash have been siphoned off to other countries via the drug (and other illegal) trade. Tijuana Mexico has a dual currency economy as does many Central and South American countries. That is why support for the illegal trade is welcomed by our banking system/federal authorities.

Interdasting.
Another reason why the banking system might be so interested in organized crime keep on thriving is because 90% of the dirty money (according to some UN reports on organized crime) gets laundered via the financial sector (and besides that, without organized crime networks how would the top dog bankers get access to top notch grade drugs and prostitutes?).
