Louisiana has its own distinct pre-American culture. I could see such places being less loyal to an over-arching American identity.

Louisiana is like 30% Black. Maybe the pervasiveness of “America was never great, it was always a nation steeped in slavery, segregation, blah blah blah” among Black people in America was what landed Louisiana on the bottom 10.
Southwest Louisiana contributed little to The Cause; being French Catholics and small farmers/fisherman & trappers they held no slaves and wished insularity. They’re still that way today, although their culture has been significantly watered down. NOLA is gangbanger nags and Grids-up fags. The rest of the state is >50% utterly gibsmedat dependent nazzers.
