r-Selected College Perks

As things go r, pleasure and hedonism become more important than ability or effort:

Increasingly, schools across the country are spending millions of dollars on recreational water amenities that would rival some of the most elaborate waterparks out there. Colleges that used to compete on the basis of libraries and majors are now turning to lazy rivers and indoor beaches to attract and entertain a new generation of students.

The University of Missouri’s $39 million rec center comes complete with an indoor beach, a lazy river, a waterfall, and a grotto modeled after the one at the Playboy mansion. Texas Tech University spent $8.4 million on their leisure pool with a 635-foot lazy river, waterslide, and tanning terrace.

It is no coincidence that we are approaching peak liberal insanity right as colleges are blowing millions on waterparks, of all things. This is free resource availability – it all goes together. But it is not real free resource availability. It is a mirage, built on the backs of debts issued to suckers and rubes. Government subsidies courtesy of student loans make all students appear as mere marks to be lured into incurring debts that will fund the college’s water features which will lure future rubes to incur even debt to continue the cycle.

The problem is, r-selection does not last forever, and fake r-selection is even more ephemeral. Once resources contract, those students who were willing to forgo the hedonism will have the mindset to survive, while those who partook while studying womyn’s studies and race relations will have to hustle to learn a new skill if they are to have any chance – especially given the debt they will be laboring under.

One has to wonder how having been played by the system and tricked into debt-slavery will affect the decision making process when the nation begins to teeter, and only great sacrifices by the populace will sustain the very system which enslaves them.

Unfortunately I’m afraid that even when things are teetering that most of the rabbits will not recognize the “error of their ways” nor that they’ve been had. They will continue riling against those “evil Republicans” even as the boot comes down on their faces. Except for extremely rare instances, no K should ever count on an epiphany from an r.
