Splintering and Texas Secession

Texans are growing antsy:

Republican officials in Texas may find themselves debating secession at the state GOP convention in Dallas this May 12-14 due to a surge in resolutions passed at the county level.

A Nederland-based activist group called the Texas Nationalist Movement claims at least 22 resolutions on a secession vote have passed, which puts pressure on GOP officials to discuss the issue at the state’s convention. The Houston Chronicle confirmed passage of 10 resolutions before its story was published Friday.

Texas Nationalist Movement said just one resolution passed four years ago.

There is no mystery here. As resources grow shorter, dopamine diminishes and it’s suppressive effects on the amygdala are diminished. As a result, amygdalae begin to light up and grow more irritable. As amygdalae begin to get irritable, people become more selective about who they associate with. Transgressions of outsiders become intolerable, and the resultant out-grouping drives this tendency toward group splintering.

There was a Russian historian who predicted the US would splinter into six states due to economic collapse.

Igor Panarin, a professor at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian foreign affairs ministry, said the economic turmoil in the US had confirmed his long-held belief that the country was heading for extinction in its present form.

In an interview with the Russian newspaper Izvestia, he outlined how the US would divide along ethnic and cultural lines.

They are:

the Pacific coast with its growing Chinese population; the increasingly Hispanic South;

independence-minded Texas;

the Atlantic Coast;

a central state with a large Native American population;

and the northern states where he maintains Canadian influence is strong.

Alaska could be claimed by Russia, he said, claiming that the region was “only granted on lease, after all”.

He said the country’s break-up would be accelerated by rising unemployment and Americans losing their savings.

I heard a similar theory from an American who lived in Russia. He said the Russians he knew all assumed this outcome awaited the US. Apparently Russians, having seen the collapse of the Soviet Union firsthand, see a lot of parallels between their nation during that period, and the situation in the US today.

If the responsible Americans who have lived sinecure lives, saved their earnings, and supported the welfarites suddenly see their jobs lost to the economic collapse and their savings appropriated to try and continue the welfarites’ gravy train, their amygdalae will light up to a degree we can not imagine. Under those conditions, that Russian’s prediction would be entirely possible.

As you look at the world, every facet of what is going on could be predicted with a simple honest look at resource availability. That is r/K Selection in action.
