The French presidential race has been rocked after a opinion poll showed leader of the National Front party, Marine Le Pen, is by far the most popular political figure among right-wing supporters, and also gaining ground among left-wing circles.
According to the poll carried out by Odoxa for French television station France 2, 74 per cent of those who consider themselves ‘conservative’ and who claim to support right-wing politics want the head of the country’s leading anti-immigrant party to play a more influential role in French politics, both now and in the future…
The opinion poll also said 50 per cent of the French population – both left and right-wing – think that Ms Le Pen is a ‘major’ political player and that she should be given more power…
The poll made another shocking revelation: two thirds of the French – 63 per cent – think that left-wing politicians could be wiped off the French political scene following next year’s elections.

The external amygdala-stimuli driving parental rearing drives, sexual drives, morals, and so on tend to not change much. How much you want to rear your child is dependent mostly on how much aversive stimulus your amygdala applies to you.
The amygdala stimuli relating to external threat and group conflict change a lot. How much you want to repel an invader will depend more on how short resources are and how hostile the invader is, more than on how developed your amygdala is and how much aversive stimulus your amygdala can inflict on you. As time goes on, your amygdala can grow stronger and force action more, but long before then, aversive stimulus can still skyrocket just off the threat.
I think the initial focus of rightward politics on nationalism is just the first step of amygdala activation, prior to fuller development of the structure. After a suitable period spent in such a condition, the amygdala will develop, and then you will see a fuller expression of the rest of the K-strategy.
