Government Political Spying in Ecuador, and of Rappers in the US

Leaked documents show the Ecuadorian government was spying on political groups.

Ecuador Transparente, a website dubbed the “Ecuadorian Wikileaks,” has released 31 documents that could prove systematic spying from the government of President Rafael Correa on opposition politicians, journalists, and activists.

The leaked documents from 2012 to 2014 — allegedly from Ecuador’s National Secretariat of Intelligence (SENAIN) — include a list and “profiles” of eight people: opposition politicians Mauricio Rodas, Mery Zamora, and Andrés Páez; environmental activists Matt Finer, Joke Baert, Sigmund Thies, and Kevin Koenig; and television anchor María Josefa Coronel.

These files detail in-depth personal information of each individual, such as marital status, address, and ID numbers, travel records, criminal records, work experience, and social-media activity.

In the case of Quito Mayor Mauricio Rodas, in addition to his profile, there are two documents that indicate monitoring of his activities during his first weeks in office. Included pictures suggest close scrutiny conducted by an undercover agent.

Finally, there are also brief descriptions of 16 other citizens, including cartoonist Xavier Bonilla “Bonil”; journalist Carlos Vera; and opposition politicians…

This happens in a broke country where there isn’t any terrorism to justify a massively inflated surveillance budget. I’ll bet it is even more prominent in the US, where resources flow freely and corruption is much better paying, if we knew the truth. Chris Muir at Day by Day Cartoon just made the Top 100 Conservative News Sites and has a readership that dwarfs this site’s. If this were Ecuador he’d be under coverage.

Interestingly, rappers in the US who associate with Louis Farrakhan claim to be under surveillance of some sort.

I have been watched by members of the Anti-Defamation League of the B’nai B’rith…

Even going back to the late 1990s early 2000s, it has been clear there has been a strategic implementation of increased surveillance—some would even say harassment—of Hip Hop artists…

“One of the memos of the counterintelligence program of the FBI dated August 25, 1967 said that no political activist or somebody with an ideology that was perceived as a threat to the establishment should have access to a mass communication media,” said Cedric Muhammad…

…in a 2014 interview Young Jeezy, whose real name is Jay Wayne Jenkins, said once he began speaking out about issues like what was happening in Ferguson, “things started getting a little funny. When I really just started speaking my mind about it, a lot of strange things started to happen around me.”

I have no idea if any of that is real, or if it was if it was associated with political activity, but it wouldn’t surprise me. If it is true, I doubt it is “The Jews” or the ADL doing the surveillance. It would be some government agency, or some larger political/business entity monitoring the associates of a politically active person with an audience.

What we are noticing with Donald Trump’s treatment (and what we have seen with McCain and Romney) is that the Republican Establishment has no problem with a Democrat winning, yet they are openly hostile to any small government conservative, and any renegade politician. Most importantly, they have a huge problem with anybody who isn’t in the Establishment winning.

As crazy as it sounds, all of our politicians appear as if they are part of one big political machine. It is not that big a stretch to assume that the network of billionaires, media moguls, professional politicos, lobbyists, and upper level government executives who have achieved power within that machine, would deploy surveillance to monitor anybody not in the establishment who might pose a threat to their carefully constructed little power structure. That they control government, and the government-funded surveillance is free only makes it more likely.

If you get involved in politics, even just by blogging or doing political cartoons, bear in mind you need to obey every law, and keep your nose clean. Never assume somebody is not tracking your activities. Given the magnitude of the collapse that is coming, there is no telling what may happen on the governmental front in the years to come. If things look shaky in the nation, I will bet anyone with any audience will start finding government agencies on their tails, looking to either cow them into obedience or force their abandonment of any advocacy.

Apocalypse cometh™, but not fast enough.
