In 2016, Senator Ada introduced a reform into Guamanian firearms law, changing the requirement that a person be a citizen of the United States, to the requirement that they be a legal resident. This reform removes an unconstitutional aspect of the previous law. The reform, bill 236-33, passed the Senate and was signed into law by the Governor.
It is kind of surprising. You would think a little tropical paradise with beautiful weather would be relatively immune to r/K, but it isn’t. My guess is Guam is like everyone else. People are working as hard or harder, and under Obama they found that they had less money left over for pleasure after going to the grocery store, paying taxes, and taking care of all their necessities.
Maybe a few people are getting desperate as rent day comes up and they don’t have enough to pay for their housing, so they do something stupid like a robbery or theft. That increases threat, in an environment that was already priming amygdalae. Now everybody is getting on edge.
Maybe there is even a small amount of migration by free-resource-expecting r-strategists, from areas of the world that are harsher, and they are creating an increase in threat as well. You can never have a nice peaceful r-selected utopia without the r-strategist scum from all over the world wanting to come and partake as well. If it is free for you, why shouldn’t it be free for them as well?
It is funny to reflect back on just a few decades ago, when Clinton passed the assault weapons ban, the focus began to shift to handguns, and it appeared that it was possible the anti-gunners could have made America into Britain or Australia.
Now France is seeing a rise in concealed carry, Sweden is trying to import any type of weapon they can get their hands on, and even Guam is shall-issue.
The world is going K, and the Apocalypse hasn’t even hit yet.
