Does that require some sort of waiver of the Posse Comitatus Act be signed, allowing the use of the military for domestic law enforcement activity? How constraining are those orders? Might Deep State be fleeing south, and need mopping up? I know I have been thinking about one day doing a covert exfil across that southern border myself if the heat picked up. April might be a big month.

Posse Comitatus limits what the military can do, but doesn’t preclude them. They can’t do “law enforcement”, which is essentially arresting illegals, but they can do pretty much everything else, and in fact have already done recon, signals, and interestingly, construction. Of, say, fences and walls — entirely within their legal powers.
It’s also inherent in the military powers to protect the border from invasion, so, while they can’t arrest illegals inside the US (without a declaration of war) they sure as hell can shoot across the border to repel an invasion.

In the United States Constitution, Article 4, Section 4, we find: The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.
The protection-against-invasion provision, I think, is sufficient justification for military border guards.
Posse comitatus: I’m no expert, but it would seem that guarding the border is different than acting inside the border. In fact guarding the border seems like the main legitimate duty of the military.
