Venezuelan Rabbits Abandoning Children At Orphanages

Kind of sad if you are a K, but you wonder how well these parents would have taken care of them, had they kept the children:

Poverty and hunger rates are soaring as Venezuela’s economic crisis leaves store shelves empty of food, medicine, diapers and baby formula. Some parents can no longer bear it. They are doing the unthinkable.

Giving up their children…

Why do they give up their children?

“I didn’t know what else to do,” said Angélica Pérez, a 32-year-old mother of three, near tears.

On a recent afternoon, she showed up at Fundana with her 3-year-old son and her two daughters, ages 5 and 14. She lost her job as a seamstress a few months ago. When her youngest came down with a severe skin condition in December and the public hospital had no medicine, she spent the last of her savings buying ointment from a pharmacy.

Her plan: leave the children at the center, where she knew they would be fed, so she could travel to neighboring Colombia to find work. She hoped she would eventually be able to take them back. Typically, children are allowed to stay at Fundana for six months to a year before being placed in foster care or put up for adoption.

“You don’t know what it’s like to see your children go hungry,” Pérez told me. “You have no idea. I feel like I’m responsible, like I’ve failed them. But I’ve tried everything. There is no work, and they just keep getting thinner.

“Tell me! What am I supposed to do?”

I will never understand those who have children that they cannot afford to provision completely. It is one thing to do it as a married team, vowing you will both do whatever you have to, and then making it happen. But to voluntarily take on three children as a single parent without the money to do so, is just insanity. This would be a proud feminist in the US, all too happy to lecture you on morals and how things should be done.

Rabbits also just don’t have that attachment to their offspring, nor can they fathom the attachment offspring have for them. Imagine leaving your child there at that orphanage.

You can see here how the r-strategy, so popular and trendy in areas where r-selection is the norm, is totally ineffective for reproduction in areas the moment resources become constricted. It is even more than ineffective – it is horrific. These are reproductive strategies.

I really don’t see how anyone can deny r/K Theory is present in humans anywhere, anymore. And I suspect this will only grow more obvious as the K-selection sweeps across the globe. These psychologies are not ideologies, or philosophies, or logical conclusions. They are instincts imbued in us through evolution, they are driven by emotional force, and they have practical applications.

The sooner that catches on, the sooner humanity will be able to actually take control of its destiny.

Spread r/K Theory, because a child needs a mom and a dad

AnonCon, this is a sterling example of your theory – but I can’t conjure ire or outrage. Presumably conditions were more R-selected when she had the child.

I guess it seems wrong to get mad at a lack of future-time-orientation.

In all fairness, how do you know she wasn’t widowed? Besides, in Venezuela at this point it really makes not much difference whether or not you are a single mom, because nobody has enough food, and nobody has work. They are all starving together. What a spectacle. If they didn’t have papayas and mangos growing randomly they’d all be long dead.

That’s definitely true in the US but in a society so thoroughly destabilized and ravaged as Maduro’s Venezuela, I’m sure there are a lot more widows as well. Also, people lose their minds when they are hungry. Holodomor survivor accounts and such…Venezuela has basically a famine right now. I wouldn’t judge these moms so harshly. As a parent myself, I can’t imagine what these wretched people are going through.

On the other hand, these people voted for Chavez and then Maduro so you might well be right…

Everything runs in cycles. The great American genius Frank Herbert said: “every cycle is a reaction to the preceding cycle.”
We are heading for a period of (necessary) mass death as the weakness of r’s collide with harsh, brutal reality. Only the strong will survive. We are descended from people who felt this in their very bones. When the welfare state collapses, the cull begins.
